I don't know basic arithmetic but good luck.
Anonymous Israel No.212331161 [Report]
You need extensive preparation. do not jump head first into it
start with pre-calculus or grade school math if you need more.
if you don't know trigonometry, then start with the latter

I very unironically didn't go to high school
I just gave up on everything and stopped going to school
They sent a teacher to teach me stuff but the teacher was ass and just told me the answers to the tests so I never learned shit
I want to learn engineering, whatever one that pays well, but I feel like my lack of knowledge on high school subjects would make this impossible

I just want a hands-on degree that pays well

I'm doing the same thing after getting a meme degree. the course I'm looking at does a foundation year to catch people up before moving onto the 3 year main course. we are probably in the best age ever to change careers.

Won't be defo easy though. Focus on learning basic maths and mechanics/dynamics in your junior year. 2nd year's curriculum will be tough.

No. It'll be really hard if you try to. Even transitioning from high school maths and physics into Mech Eng it was extremely difficult for me. You almost certainly have to do pre-requisites to get in.

I study philosophy at a public college (one of the best in the country, at least). Since my university provides accommodation and gives some money to poor students, this is how I live. When this ends, I will probably move back in with my parents and become a NEET again...

I'm not saying its impossible, but still won't be easy if he is literally starting from the scratch. Thats why i'm saying he should focus on "filling the void" before he starts his 2nd year, as it gets really tough from the 2nd year.

Well listen I was in your shoes, at age 22 I also started my academic journey with a bullshit degree(film), I saw the beginning tide of AI and the general uselessness of that degree and dropped out after year 1. Took a year off to learn maths and chill.
Now I'm in year 1 of an engineering degree.
I also did not remember much from school, I don't have the most sturdy base so it is difficult. But it's doable, I feel.
If you take the pre academic learning seriously, then you have a good chance at success.

Well, I could drop philosophy and take a better (economically) course. I'm confident that I can learn anything, as long as I focus. But since I only have one semester left of this course, I want to finish it. Maybe I'll try another one after that (perhaps CS).

You might as well finish, and learn basic math in this semester as well
Anonymous United States No.212331899 [Report]
no because mechanical engineering, like all engineering, relies on the Integral

if you can't do a single variable integral you can't do engineering, and most companies require multivariable integrals aka multivariable calculus now too

Nigga, we don't live in the pre-2000s. Why would you do anything engineering related. You'd have a better shot being some technician/tradie and then upscaling from there
Anonymous Canada No.212331976 [Report] >>212332023
You'll need to pass calc and linear algebra at least, I recommend self studying and looking up youtube channels first.

This is not a useful channel. It's interesting and fun, but not useful. If you want to learn math, you need to focus hard on doing all the boring stuff. Learning math is 99% boring and tedious work. 1% is the kind of understanding you can get through videos like that.
Anonymous Canada No.212332040 [Report]
Also college level physics, especially in engineering, require a better understanding of the real world.
Anonymous Canada No.212332059 [Report]

The channel has useful visualisations which can help with learning, it's obviously not a substitute to a real book.
