Military correspondent Doron Kadosh with an initial investigation into the sequence of incidents this morning in the Shejaiya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, in which Sergeant Yaniv Michalovitch was killed and 8 other fighters were injured:
1. The sequence of incidents began this morning, around 9:00 AM, as part of the maneuver that Division 98 launched in recent days in the Shejaiya neighborhood in the northern Gaza Strip. The division, with the Commando Brigade and the 7th Brigade, entered areas in Shejaiya where the IDF had not operated for many months, and began an attack there.
2. The incident began with two incidents of RPG rockets being fired at forces, within a short period of time: First, a terrorist squad launched an RPG at a building where a force of fighters from the Egoz unit were staying. As a result of the hit, two fighters were injured - one moderately and one lightly.
3. Shortly thereafter - after only about 20 minutes, another anti-tank missile was launched at a tank. This is an armored force operating under the battalion combat team of the Egoz unit, in the same area. The tank operated with the aim of locating the terrorists from the first incident. The tank was hit by an anti-tank missile - one soldier was killed and the other soldiers in the tank were injured - two seriously and one moderately.
4. Immediately after the two incidents, the Air Force carried out numerous airstrikes in the area - in order to enable the rescue of the injured from the area, and also in an attempt to close the circle on the terrorists. The IDF is currently investigating whether the same terrorist squad fired the two anti-tank missiles,
5. After the two anti-tank incidents - another shooting incident occurred in the same area where the Egoz unit operates: a Hamas sniper fired from a mosque at an Egoz force, and one soldier was seriously injured.
6. Shortly thereafter - another incident in the Shejaiya area: a D-9 engineering vehicle hit a bomb.
