>What is the ecological impact of air conditioning?
In France, air conditioning is responsible for nearly 5% of CO2 emissions from the building sector, according to Ademe (French Environment Agency) in 2021. Globally, it generates approximately one billion tons of CO2 per year out of a total of 37 billion tons emitted worldwide, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), or nearly 3%, a figure comparable to that of air traffic and equivalent in magnitude to the CO2 emissions of Japan.

>Additionally, air conditioners typically use refrigerant gases (HFCs), which can be thousands of times more potent than CO2 in terms of warming when they escape into the atmosphere. "Refrigerant gas emissions are possible at various times: during manufacturing, maintenance, as leaks during use, and at the end of their life,"

>By releasing hot air into the streets, air conditioning also contributes to urban heat island effects. A 2014 study simulated a nighttime temperature increase of +1°C in city centers.

I don't think europoors realize how much richer americans are
they don't just ACs in their commie block cuckpods, they have entire HVAC systems in their McMansions
they cope by saying it doesn't get that hot but they can't even afford a simple AC unit

price of a shite ac is around 1000€, thats not the issue, americans isnt that much richer infact some of us are richer than them.
when i lived in the city i owned my apartment, but for logical reasons i didnt own the housing structure, so where would i put the outdoor unit? with a balcony i could put it there but i had none.
once i sold it and bought a house i installed a heat pump/ac the first week and every house around has one or two.

Are you aware that France has one of the largest shale gas reserves in the world, yet it is illegal to exploit it ?
Why ? Because mining it pollutes the soil. And we have the luxury of choice, so we prefer to buy gas from the Americans (since the war in Ukraine) because the Americans don't give a damn about destroying their soil for European money.

AC is ugly as fuck, makes every house look like a favela tier in an instant
What's more it is against God. If it's too hot, stop, drink water, take a nap under the shade.
What's more us that it's just anti-nature. I enter the woods in Portugal and suddenly it's not blazing hot anymore. Plant trees.

But americans are anti-god, anti-nature, anti-aesthetics.

dont remember if it was in spain, france or italy but i remember walking in some back alley and there was ac units everywhere, always on their tiny little balconies and often the 2 fans 10+kw'ish units. walk around to the front facade and there was nothing.
im an ac/fridge tech so i see this by instinct, my eyes seek it out. made me think its just like here you cant put one on a front facing facade in the city but you can behind it and thoose with big ones where nice and made a deal with the neighbour in his front facing apartment.

they are and your old apartment buildings in the citys are even worse than here.
its funny how 1/3 of your population live in such apartments where access to ac is non existing or limited and yet you make fun of others. its 1/5 for norway but a hellish 65% in spain so there is some truth to it.

This is normal and inevitable btw. Anywhere on earth reforestation rates only surpass deforestation after the virgin forests have been destroyed. The Brazilian states where forests grow the most are eastern states that have already destroyed their primeval forests.
