When internet wasn't widespread they'd blame it on library books being expensive to rent or unavailable for borrowing or all copy the same entry from some encyclopedia, when internet became available they started lazily copying wikipedia or whatever second result after wikipedia with little to no change. Now they have AI to make them even lazier
I never understood it because even my studious classmates who rawdog mathematics and physics didn't have that drive for research and synthesis of texts as well, they'd rather do boring shit like logarithmic functions ad nauseam than take 30 minutes of taking notes from different sources then putting them together in a mandatory essay about x or y subject
