I have a running theory that this has been the story of most great civilizations of history. They are founded by a brilliant group of pale folk (not "nords" or any nonsense like that just paler progenitors). They build a golden age civilization. This prosperous golden age civilization invites a horde of browns in. The horde suffocates the civilization and it falls/declines.

It lasted so long specifically because it didn't have any. Their armies were more akin to a police force that kept the south in check when it revolted against the north. But eventually others became interested in Egypt, since their desert was becoming less and less of a challenge to cross. Once again, it's kind of like building on peaceful mode. No outside variables, except sending out a few trade hips that eventually get others interested in Egypt.
