odd way to argue the matter
obv you should pay back a loan
the issue is that education costs astronomical amounts of money over there, not that student loans exist
really starting at the wrong end of that problem

Today, I still owe $0

Colleges are a massive racket here, it's amazing really. Usually when you have a free market with this many players, competition gets pretty fierce and the consumer benefits. Somehow the thousands of colleges here, both private and public, have all managed to agree to fuck over students in every way possible together.

Many states only have shit colleges. By your logic, if you're a smart kid in Arkansas, Nevada, Oklahoma, Colorado, etc., you're just fucked.

That math isn't adding up. It should've been fully paid off by now if they took the standard student loans. Also, two people with Master's degrees, should be able to afford to put more than $500/mo towards their degree, unless they got fake degrees with zero earning prospects. And if you work a job in government or charity, your loans is automatically forgiven after 10 years.

you do know it isn't that easy, right?
"escaping" to another country is usually just to enjoy immediate protection if another country wants you for something, like what Snowden did, but that's never permanent
you usually can't escape debt, and countries will cooperate in repatriating you, or at least force you to pay via their authorities instead
Anonymous Japan No.212431797 [Report]
Unless you're a professional athlete, there's no real need to move to the U.S. for the 'American Dream.' While salaries in Japan are on the lower side, comparable to Central Europe, the cost of living is cheap, job security is basically guaranteed, and it's easy to find work (since the language barrier is so high for foreigners).

anything that helps the people of a given state via state means is socialist
sure, in this case it's based on meritocratic achivements (ie working for government bodies or charities), but still something that assists the individual doing that
I know you hate socialism and are erroneously taught in schools it's some kind of anti-thesis to "freedom" and whatnot, so this is why I was surprised there's literally anything in the US to alleviate a citizen of financial hardship.

yeah IT is totally fucked in the USA right now

I make $27/hr working for a shithole major city government. I apply every day for IT help desk jobs paying ~$15/hr and still get rejected. Hundreds of applications. I've had resume review and everything.

I have both given up and also come to peace with the reality of the situation. Companies like Microsoft and Amazon lay off 9000 people and the next month hire 10,000 Indians. That's just the way it is here.

Nta but why is this unreasonable. Many states even have a thing where if you border a state or are part of a region like the west then you get instate tuition. Plus when it comes to attending college you’ll be living there for years anyways and you’ll usually get instate tuition not long into it.

No, that's not how any of it works. Typically you need to live there for a year for non-education related reasons before receiving the in-state tuition price. You also need to show that either you or your parent(s) paid income taxes in that state, to qualify for residency. Meaning you need a job there for at least a year.
This all varies by state, but not enough that you can easily just use a loophole to get in-state tuition. Otherwise nobody would pay out of state tuition after the first year.

Yes and no. I had no debt until I had to live on campus for my last year of college because I went homeless. Tuition, housing, and a meal plan cost me 15k for 2 semesters. I'm not arguing that housing and meals should be free but a lot of uni students are going to live on campus and that IS expensive even at state schools.
Anonymous United States No.212434072 [Report]

Yeah Ik but if you can’t do the most token amount of work to qualify then you’re a retard. People pay out of state tuition because they are retards.
