why do americans sometimes want to identify as american, and other times with some vague european ancestry? why not just always indentify as american only

Because it's nice to have something distinct about yourself I guess I don't know. How come only ethnically European Americans are criticized for doing this?

Ill say this again cuz I don't know if you fucks understand. Everyone here is from somewhere else So when an American says "I'm Irish" or "I'm Dutch" or whatever, he doesn't mean that this is his nationality. He means that's where his people are from, that's his tribe. Hes not literally saying that's where he's from.

europeans have trouble separating ethnicity and nationality, cf. Irish (person with an Irish passport) vs Irish (person whose ancestors were a Celtic people formerly living on the island of Ireland)

From an American perspective, there is no conflict in identifying as an American (nationality) and a person of European descent (ethnicity)

why is it so difficult for europoors to understand that when an american says he’s “swedish” or whatever, he obviously means that he’s an american of swedish descent and not an actual swede. Because historically this is a nation of immigrants, and everyone here’s family came from somewhere else. it’s just small talk trivia, i don’t know why europoors get so butthurt about it.
