This is what I do in my country
So these are the basic ship categories in my fleet:
The two biggest ones up front are examples of the Cruisers, largest mainline type, with the two right next to them down the row being Destroyers. The three beside them and further down the row are the Frigate types, while the smaller ships in the back row are Corvette and Support vessels.

Those aren't flight wings, they're weapons arrays. They project outward for maximum coverage.
Notice the support ships don't have them.

It turns out it's a logical shape to withstand the acceleration from the thrusters. As for the people inside it's another story.
