The concept of “icks” is the result of dating apps. Women (and men) obsess over minute imperfections because the nature of dating apps has conditioned them to believe that if they keep swiping they’re bound to find someone perfect eventually. It doesn’t matter if you’re 90% perfect, maybe in 5 more dates they’ll find the 100% perfect guy. It’s essentially a gambling addiction, keep chasing the jackpot.
Compare this to how humans are supposed to form relationships: over longer spans of time with in-person interaction. Only through in person interaction can you grow accustomed to someone’s quirks and imperfections and learn if you actually like them as a person. Being dropped into a 1 on 1 situation with a stranger where you have to take everything in at once is unnatural and causes people to instead seek surface level qualities of physical attractiveness over personality.
