There isn't anything interesting to read, watch, or listen to in Japanese, really. At least not unless you're like a PhD level speaker. The only reason you'd want to learn Japanese is if you live there.

japan has literally the highest per capita production of good media of any country on the planet. it's not just anime. they have the world's best dramas, movies, and tv shows, excellent novels, literature, and videogames. one learns japanese because of the content

No they don't. The only thing I'll grant you is video games, and most of those are in English anyway.
English : alone covers 90% of the world's expertise
French : mainstream art, culinary, fashion, English literature
Russian : study of the eastern bloc
Greek : botanists and zoologists to coin names of new species
Hebrew, Arabic : respective religious stuffs
Japanese : subculture art
