One in five Romanians isn't connected to a sewage system, but most of them have a wooden outhouse with a throne connected to a pit, but I think 1/10 of those do it in the open, especially the gypsies. Digging up a literal shit hole is a lot of work, I saw pops do it when I was a wee kid and it took him 2 days. The pit ran 2.5 metres deep.

Seen a crazy guy do it in a park near city center in Bosnia. He just kind of squatted behind a miniature tree (like up to his knees) and let it rip.
