Should I Buy My Grandfather’s Property in Macedonia?
My grandfather wants me to buy his property in Bitola, Macedonia, for $30,000 because I'm his only male grandchild.
My mother is from Macedonia, but I don't speak the language, so communicating with locals would be difficult.
I'm planning to visit Macedonia next year to see my mother's side of the family.
If I did buy the property, what could I do with it? Is Bitola a popular area?

Bitola is nice, lots of sun, great food, close to Ohrid lake. I'd go for it unless the house is in really poor condition

because you had both parents from the same ethnicity and they spoke that language with each other, obviously OP's parents belong to different ethnicities and probably only used English at home

What do you mean buy his property? He sold it and wants you to buy it back or something?
But anyway, I haven't been to Bitola, but I'm a big fan of the Balkans in general, and looking at the map, it seems that Bitola is placed rather nicely right next to mountains, a large national park, and mere 40km from Ochrid (very nice).
I don't know about the property itself though. You ought to see it with your own eyes, because balkans aren't really famous for quality building practices. If it's a building from the 50's-00's it's probably in a shit condition. If it's something new, then it might be worth it.
