The drug situation is getting worse in my country too but at least the situation is *still(who knows we'd be like them in upcoming years)* under control here, relatively when you compare it to the west esp the States. Its literally so shocking to see how widespread and tolerated it is in the west.

We have no culture or anything to be proud of, most people have broken families etc. We are simply economic units in a spiritual wasteland and we can't get materially rich flipping burgers anymore like boomers could, so many turn to drugs.

I can answer this one.
>huge push of highly addictive prescription opiods per Sackler family and big pharma
>for a period these pills were widely available and easy to obtain, even as a teenager you could probably just raid your parents medicine cabinet and experience pure euphoric high
>very miserable culture which creates forms of silent desperation, isolation, depression, alienation, and hopelessness
>above points mean a lot of people already addicted, and significantly more in the ideal position to become addicted if they are ever exposed to opiods
>final nail in coffin is the immense proliferation of adulterated products, fentanyl pressed pills, these days even more potent zenes
And the result is a lot of fucking deaths from overdose. There's different types though and idk which is more common, you'd have to check available resources. But basically there's
1) seasoned opi addict who either gets more potent shit than they're used to or is desperate and takes greater risks to get high/relieve their withdrawals and as a result overdose
2) complete noobs and opiate naive beginners who have no tolerance and can't survive the absurdly potent product that is being pushed everywhere.

Point 2 is obviously the most tragic case. Imagine trying something for the first time and just dying. It's more insidious because these days it isn't just fake painkiller pills or heroin that is laced with fent and worse. A lot of the time it's drugs that historically weren't being adulterated, like benzos, muscle relaxers, cocaine, even weed sometimes (pretty rare though). There was a weed vape pen that killed some teenagers recently because it had fent in it. Hopefully this explains the situation a bit

And this is just touching the surface. If you want to go deeper down the rabbit hole there's the obvious China connection as far as fent, and then obviously your country has cartels which I think at this point actually find it funny seeing how many Americans they can kill with adulterated products, but the biggest culprit of all is Americans themselves actually. It's a form of warfare or culling if you consider it objectively.

The policymakers and boards of directors and bigwigs here in USA don't want the opiod crisis to be solved. It gives law enforcement more power and influence and money via war on drugs which they never want to win. They need the war on drugs to be perpetual. If there were an effective way to end it (and there are several) they would kill anyone trying to being that about with extreme prejudice.

Big pharma, DEA, law enforcement, both democratic and republican parties, China, and Mexican cartels. Every single one of these extremely powerful entities benefit immensely from the current state of affairs. Who on earth could stand against this many powerful players? They are all benefiting off of the blood of American citizens. I could expand on this all day, for example opiod addiction is a symptom of the social climate and citcumstances people in USA are subjected to, and that is very much a result of policy and internal politics. They love to blame it on outside factors but that's total BS. The US powers that be are 100% complicit and culpable in the opiod crisis.

If you really want to under why Americans are so desperate for narcotics I recommend just living here for a few months. I had a friend from overseas who stayed here for 2yrs and within 4 or 5 months he told me he finally gets it and that he realized USA is the most miserable fucking place. And he was super Gung ho before actually seeing it firsthand. Words don't do it justice.

Anyways, it's only going to get worse.

Don't forget Xanax and other pharmaceuticals. When I lived in Korea I could buy that off the streets easily enough. I think someone explained that with a prescription there was no centralized sysyem so drug dealers in Korea could go to a bunch of different cities and fill their prescription over and over again.
