I find it surprising there is the マンガでわかる series for several types of math and science and computer related stuff (like how a CPU works and digital circuits), but not specifically programming for something like C or simpler script language. I used マンガでわかるデータベース to learn SQL many years ago. Missed opportunity to capture money from the L2Code wave that lasted forever.

The う is only there in 辞書形 (dictionary form)
They aren't saying ひろお, they are saying ひろ stopping, then saying ている

I think it's called a glottal stop, but I don't know much about linguistical terms and just read and watch a lot.
Anonymous Norway No.212601816 [Report]
Also ひろお would sound way flatter, you can literally hear the change from お to う if you pay attention enough, but maybe you need more listening practice.

拾う ひろう

You are talking about "synizesis", and Japanese has its own section on the wikipedia article

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synizesis#Japanese

>Whether synizesis occurs in Japanese may depend on numerous factors. For example, words with the disyllabic /au/ sequence evolved differently depending on their origin. Sino-Japanese words with this sequence mostly underwent synizesis: 京 (kyō, "capital city") became monosyllabic /kjoː/ from /kjau/. However, words of native origin with the same sequence did not undergo synizesis, such as 買う (kau, "to buy")

Seems like cases of non-synizesis occur more in native Japanese words like verbs.

Ah thanks, that clears it all up for me
I was extremely confused because I knew 東京 was pronounced as とお not とう but I guess my problem was just assuming this was a simplistic rule that always applied

Just find a random vn or anime with jp subs and start mining. It'll only become easier and easier the more words you learn.
Make sure to google grammar concepts as well, don't make the mistake I made of overrelying on dictionary for everything, sometimes it's good to ask questions and alot of the time others have already asked them online.
