Art museum, czech village, tour the brucemore manor, pickle palace, go drinking and fuck college age white girls in iowa city, downtown bazaar farmers market in the summer, boating on the lakes and cedar river. Plus lots of hiking and camping in top-tier nature but there's more than enough to fill a single day besides that. You can do a lot worse than that part of Iowa honestly. Waterloo, davenport, dubuque are all shit. I don't even know what's west of Des Moines. It doesn't make sense to exclusively vacation in CR (unless you're looking for something lowkey), but it's a short enough drive from Chicago that you can just make a daytrip of it and get something out of it. The art museum is great, though sometimes the exhibits of the season are kind of eh.

It's a mid-sized blue collar city anon. LA is a major metropolitan area. Cedar Rapids punches above its weight, but comparing the two is nonsense.

It's at the upper end of what I'd consider for a day trip, but it's not that bad. Sometimes I forget Europe isn't so spaced out and you guys aren't used to highway cruisin'

Listen, the trick is get the right car. It should be big, have soft suspension, and most crucially it should have plush seats. It'll melt those miles away. An econobox or something sporty (or anything new, really, since everything is now sporty with hard seats) will just make you tired. In a proper American boat like a Lincoln Town Car, the drive is a comfortable and a small joy. Very zen.

You are. South Dakota is the only state without left-lane laws.
In all states it's a traffic violation to hold up traffic in any way, too.

Nevada seems like a cool place to live, I don't care about parties, gatherings or meeting people, I like to do things on my own, someone tell me more about Nevada.

This makes me a little unamerican but I fucking hate driving.
I regularly avoid trips because I can't stand being in a car for hours at a time.
Traveling with normies is fucked. They will spend 4 hours in a car and then force you to run around doing shit at whatever destination you arrive. They will try to avoid staying the night at the destination because "we can make it back in time" so when it's over they rush back to the car for another 4 hour trip to try to make it back home on time. After all of this my mood is totally fucked, I hate everyone and I wish I never went.

I'm too anxious when I drive, like full alert schizoid. I also don't like being the passenger because I get motion sick easily, the constant motion of braking when there's traffic makes me nauseous, I'm pretty sure 95% of drivers in the world can't do limousine stops.

no the cities are different, but the culture is the same (besides Miami, maybe SLC also since the majority of people are apart of a 19th century cult).
They vary in weather and how much they are like a city vs a conglomeration of suburbs

Winston Salem is a shithole lol, you gotta be confusing it with something else.

Both Charleston and Savannah have a very expensive touristy old town area but then are surrounded by generic sprawl. Charlotte is the best city in the Carolinas, its 'soulless' with a lot of sprawl but they've built up a fairly nice urban core and it attracts people and companies from around the country to move there.

I just meant that it has a nice historic district that gives it some character.

I was just trying to be nice to America, every city in the US has urban sprawl. If you discount every place with urban sprawl then you'd never compliment anything but a handful of Massachusetts' fishing villages

Chicago and Austin are very different.

Americans are very mobile so there aren't many regional cultural differences, but that doesn't mean the cities are all the same. There's categories of course, growing sun belt cities (Austin, Atlanta, Dallas, Charlotte, Phoenix) are all very similar, and rust belt cities (Detroit, Cleveland, St Louis) are very similar. Chicago is a hybrid, the downtown and north feel like New York, while the south feels like a rust belt city.

You can get that in any state, most of this country is not densely inhabited, but especially anywhere in the west. I guess Nevada's good if you like desert. There's desert in other states too though.

It’s way too low-density
And developers are trying to build it up more, but the retards on city council won’t allow people to build apartments.
If they were a little denser you could easily walk around and take public transport.

LA urban area is more dense than NYC urban area. LA is dense for American standards, its just polycentric.
>>212584684
NYC also has a lot of sprawl, but no one would ever say that makes Manhattan not urban. I agree that sprawl doesn't automatically make a city bad.

But Charleston and Savannah's cores just aren't that nice places to live in. I would rate Charlotte and Atlanta above Savannah/Charleston, they're nicer places to live even though they're not picturesque.

>the retards on city council won’t allow people to build apartments
And of course these apartments will all be 30% reserved for black people for stupid low prices subsidized by taxpayers and residents that actually have jobs or something. There's a reason that boomers have such a strong knee jerk response to apartments. It's a great way to just nuke any semblance of community. Which is actually extremely ironic given how soulless suburbs are. The solution isn't increased density, it's giving up on this garbage dump of a nigger loving hellhole and going to asia.

Well, that's also because how exceptionally urban the central parts of the NYC metro are, where you could live your whole life without ever leaving it.
