Because Armenians had been staging terrorist operations since the 1890s, and their cooperation with the invading Russian army (helping them with logistics, murdering Turkish and Kurdish civilians in the rearguard, cutting off Ottoman supply trains, and even forming 2 Armenian divisions in the Russian army) was the last straw. For the Turks, it was an us or them situation. It was textbook genocide, no matter what Turks tell you, and it was absolutely logical and deserved, no matter what Armenians tell you.

Because nobody likes Armenians. They're one of those selfish ethnicities like the Druze, the Jews, the Tamils or the Tutsi who were perfectly happy with backstabbing their neighbours and working with foreign invaders as long as they themselves got rich and promoted to positions of power. Georgians despise them, Azeris and Turks want them dead, so do all other Caucasian Muslims, Russians consider them a Christian version of Jews, Greeks and Arabs aren't very fond of them either etc. Armenians are universally considered scum.

This is a very common phenomenon amongst people who have experienced any form of social isolation; they create an ideal image of what a "friendship" is like in their heads and when they actually start socializing they feel disappointed because their peers don't match that ideal.
