2 people working for $15/hr is a perfect wage.

It's enough for 2 people to afford a house, 2 cars, in a good city, and even enough to have a baby.

People who whine about it "not being enough" is PURE greed. You don't know how lucky you are already.

Is this bait? $15/hr at 40hrs/week is $31200, so for two it'd be $62400, which is only enough for ONE person to live decently. Definitely, not two people and a child. The minimum wage in my county is only $18/hr which is hardly better.

It depends, I agree it isn't the best way. That being said, the minimum wage SHOULD be enough to live on without welfare. If your company is above a certain size and/or has above a certain amount of revenue, it should be legally required to pay AT LEAST $20-21/hr. We already have laws like this for providing high quality benefits legally if you have a certain amount of employees or above a certain amount of revenue. The best way to increase quality of life for the working class is lowering housing cost via expanding Section-8 vouchers, and building low-cost and social housing. And also increasing time off with shorter days and more weeks of vacation.

We need a better market for market rate housing, that's the most important thing.

Subsidized housing should really only be necessary for low-income families and seniors. Also, if we want more social housing, we're going to need to be able to build them cheaper. We can't build affordable housing at $500k a unit.

I don't want to block out the sun and pave over our nature to build hideous cappieblocks. The best way to lower housing costs is to disincentive real-estate as an investment, and deport the tens of millions who shouldn't be here, who are taking up housing units. There should be progressive real-estate taxes for each home you own, going up 10% of the home value for every extra home you own.

This would cause unemployment, especially in low cost of living areas, and completely nuke part time jobs for teenagers and students.

Also why does company size matter? Why should small businesses be able to pay people $15 an hour, while larger businesses have to pay $20? That doesn't really make sense.

Renting is a valid option. We don't need to incentive home ownership over renting.

Why exactly is this a good thing? I don't particularly care whether or not my landlord is some mom and pop landlord or an investment firm. A mom and pop landlord isn't going to own a 300 unit apartment building also, that's just not realistic.

Investment firms buying apartment buildings incentives developers to build, which expands the housing supply.

This isn't a real problem.

The companies buying real estate rent it out, so it doesn't actually reduce housing supply. Also, who exactly is supposed to own and manage a large apartment building if a large company doesn't buy it? Are you expecting some random dude to just spend $100M on an apartment building, manage it and rent out all the units?

Investment firms aren't just buying housing and leaving it vacant, that's a leftists myth that doesn't make any sense. Why would a company buy housing, leave it vacant and collect 0 rent, and pay a bunch of property taxes? That' makes no sense. The real vacant properties companies buy are vacant lots and surface parking lots for land speculation purposes, and that would be fixed by imposing a land value tax.

China is basically capitalist too, so it isn't like there'll be another war of ideologies. Unironically, if the culture war was leverage properly, it could lead to huge increases in QOL.

Yes, but think about the productivity for your CEOs. Think about the tax revenue collected, and the things the money is being used for.

Is that how jobs work in the US? You can just waltz your way into your local convenience store, demand a full-time job, with 8 hours of OT per week, in perpetuity, with 100% work protection, with sick pay, and job security of not being laid off, because just 1 month of unemployment would derail everything because you live literally paycheque to paycheque?

No, but if you are fortunate enough to have a minimum wage job with consistent mandatory overtime you can live like he suggests you can. Most minimum wage jobs would rather hire 2 part timers than 1 full timer. If you are a full timer, they will go fucking psychotic if you go one second over 40 hours and cut you down to about 30 for the next week just to make sure you don't get too uppity and start expecting that +50% rate.
