That's more like "au". If you try to pronounce "ão" like that here it would lead to some funny misudestardings.

it's surprising how many foreigners can't make our nasal sounds, I thought it would be easy to get used to it, just have to use your nose brah

This is a trap. The more people say it incorrectly the first time, the worse their subsequent attempts will get.
>>212619633
Yeah, camp people nasalize their vowels. Nasal vowels aren't phonemic in English like in Portuguese. It's kind of like how tones aren't phonemic in English, but they are in Chinese, so saying words with different tones sometimes doesn't matter and only conveys emotions in English, but they have to be consistent in Chinese.
Sometimes people (at least here) will pronounce mountain as "mõwt'n" rather than "mount'n". It's kind of like that.

If they put effort into it they can, but 99% of them can't be bothered to pronounce it properly with that nasal tone. It's like ESLs who don't bother to pronounce th properly.
On discord, I used to have a nickname with "ao", and even though it didn't have the tilde over the a, every single english native speaker struggled to pronounce ao, even without all the nasality.

Because you went onto English speaking discords and they therefore assumed you were an English speaker you dumb CUNT why the fuck would they know that "ao" meant the Portuguese ão and not just the letters a and o

Calm the fuck down, Nigel. It's not my fault you angloids can't pronounce such a simple vowel combination.
And I didn't expect them to pronounce it with any nasality like in portuguese. Just the "a" and "o" together made english speakers almost have a stroke trying to say my name, to the point I changed it out of pity.

I would assume it's an acronym and just say it like the English letters: "ay oh." I could pronounce it correctly for Portuguese (maybe not the nasalization) but it would sound like a I'm pronouncing a foreign word in a foreign accent, which is pretentious, and so I would probably just start saying "ow" eventually.
