Once when I was on vacation in Greece my hotel had problems with their water and electricity and some random older woman I had met on the beach invited me to stay with her family until they had fixed their problems at the hotel.

Also hospitality is a huge deal in Arabic cultures which come from a literal desert where food is naturally scarce.

When I was a kid and I was at a friend's house and it was their time to eat dinner they would regularly offer me food but I always declined because I knew my own mother had food prepared for me at home and it would be rude to my mother if I ate my friend's food instead.
