america doesn't have an official language and most states with large latino communities have latino businesses, radio and tv, even police and paramedics will have plenty of spanish speakers
it is entirely possible to never need to deal with other types of americans, this should not be shocking, also only english speakers make a big deal of it even though they have no ground to stand on, technically you cannot force another person to speak english, there are laws against that

my arab dad is like this and he's been here since the 90s so quite literally 30 years
and i dont speak a lick of arabic so as a result my dad's pretty much just been emotionally absent my whole life, and i hate everything about arab culture because he's what it represents to me
its like arabs and mexicans look down on people who dont speak their language, they're too proud of themselves to consider what we're actually saying and wind up just looking completely braindead
