Whites are a very Kantian people, we find it hard to hold double standards and have to morally justify what we do. The whole reason there were brutal arguments of white racial supremacy during the age of colonialism was because we found it hard to justify the mass enslavement we did. Other races were like "lol, you're a slave" and didn't really care to make moral arguments about it.

So many whites have to pretend that colonialism was good for the rest of the world to avoid being vulnerable to guilt. There's basically no way out but returning to a belief in white supremacy imo.
