Nor did their music or fashion.
Their animation style did influence western animation - now western cartoons have this uncanny mix of anime style with some mix of their own.

Japanese contemporary literature is much more worthwhile than most of the refuse that currently gets produced in the west, they have a lot of classics as well, but it's a shame one can't properly appreciate the nuances (kanji nuance isn't a meme) without studying japanese for a long time, you can't appreciate the use of language when something is translated ja-en, even es-en gets you much closer to true meaning than that and there are a lot of good translations for, for example, the works of cervantes, dostoyevski or someone else, while japanese literature usually has one or two translations that never get close to what the author intended because the writing system isn't compatible, or something like that in spanish
