For that reason many black americans still do not feel like they are part of the "American nation" but rather a "black American nation". I feel they view themselves separately.
While a very small proportion of White Americans were slave owners, virtually ALL Black African Americans came to the USA through slavery. And despite various suggestions to pay them "reparations" or some form of support due to this history of slavery, there has never been any wide-scale payment or land transfer from the US government to blacks.
However, Black Americans are mostly recipients of welfare, which means that many receive free food and medical care from the government. Some may claim that through welfare, reparations have been paid.
The issue of slavery and reparations sours the relations between white and black americans, leading to events like the one you see in the video.
