No, I’m actually related more closely to the people that took it from them lol but I’m not Spaniard THOUGH. But I have no problem claiming their achievements :)

that's not honesty, tenchtitlan was described as very clean city by the spanish, but bigger and grander than venice or genoa

not every, throughout the war with the Spanish the triple alliance held firm, but it is against the multitude of enemies aztecs had, they were assholes but their allies were loyal

but they basically relied on violence and terrorizing surrounding cities to keep them under mexica rule no wonder everyone joined the tlaxcalan side in the mexica-tlaxcala war

I can imagine. Like who would want to betrayal the guys who cut their living POWs their hearts out in their spare time. If they treat their enemies like that, imagine what they would do to a traitorous piece of shit like you, if they win.

This is probably the most sad thing to me from a historical perspective. The Aztec and the Inca actually had world class cities for the time, bigger than in Europe, but just had bad luck in terms of disease vulnerability. They may have been brutal in terms of wanton violence, but the cities themselves could have been so incredible. If it wasn't for disease they might have been unique great world cultures.

tenochitlan had very strict building codes, aztec is the nobility of the society, non-nobles lived outside on the shores of the lake, think of it more like a palatial complex, they obviously had rules about garbage and sewage

the triple alliance was maintained through marriage, they were relatives, and no aztecs didn't wear the skin of the bride, they only did it once

fun fact, Albrecht Dürer got to see Aztec pieces of art brought back from Mexico before Tenochtitlan had even fallen.

>In this diary entry, Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528) expresses his fascination with a wondrous collection that he viewed while visiting Brussels—an assortment of objects and clothing brought back from the “new land of gold” (Mexico). While he mentions the foreignness of these objects, he does not elaborate further, leaving the us-them distinction implied and subordinate to the feelings of wonder and curiosity evoked by the objects.

>27. August 1520

> […] At Brussels is a very splendid town hall, large and covered with beautiful carved stonework, and it has a noble, open tower. […] I saw the things which have been brought to the King from the new land of gold, a sun all of gold a whole fathom broad, and a moon all of silver of the same size, also two rooms full of armor of the people there, and all manner of wondrous weapons of theirs, harness and darts, very strange clothing, beds, and all kinds of wonderful objects of human use, much better worth seeing than prodigies [myths, fairy tales]. These things were all so precious that they are valued at 100,000 florins [guilders] All the days of my life I have seen nothing that caused my heart to rejoice as much as these things, for I saw amongst them wonderful works of art, and I marveled at the subtle ingenia [character] of men in foreign lands. Indeed, I cannot express all that I thought there. […]
