Why is Russia attacking Ukraine? Redpill me.
It's kind of depressing if you think about it. It's akin to USA and Canada killing each other.

Ukraine was getting too close to the West and Russia didn't like that. Plus Ukraine held some territories that belonged to Russia in the past and they wanted them back.

Because every time Ukraine starts to grow Russia pulls some economic bullshit to make their economy take a downturn. They got tired of this, ousted their pro-Russian leader in 'le evil western backed color revolution', and tensions grew. From there Russia decided it was time to forcefully bring what they likely see as their misguided vassal state back in line. Putin was sold the lie by his yes-men that Russians would be loved and greeted as liberators. We see how that turned out. And since it started most of those yes-men are now gone.

>Russia flips its shit because that means Ukraine leaving its dwindling zone of influence, in Europe its really just Belarus left, and occupies parts of it so it cannot join NATO and would be too awkward to join EU
>Also some argument about ancestral clay and nazis or something
That's basically it, Russia's satellite wants to leave, but they don't want them to leave so it so they try to at least keep them fully out of rivals hands, after 2022 it also turned into a nationalism thing also

The truth nuke is that if you want to become a great leader in russian history you have to kill millions of russians. The more russians you kill the more "based" you are because no one hates russians more than other russians.
This is why Putin is using tactics that maximize russian death and suffering instead of just carpet bombing the entire country in 2022 and destroying Kiev with the ballistic missile stockpile they had. They just hit civilian areas with a few missile every day (instead of actual military targets on the front) then send 5 niggas on a bike every 10 minutes across the entire front losing 30k men every few months for a bombed village or two

geopolitics is the front, but real reason is russian imperialism

russian patriots see ukraine not as the state but rebellous province, plus it's drifting towards "the enemy"
however i always felt that nato expansion was nothing more than casus belli, and they prove it by almost completely pulling off troops and anti air from Kaliningrad, American border, and Finnish border, which means they know NATO is not going to attack them.
