>>212692174Keep in mind Azoreans weren't old stock colonial Portuguese and were actually a tiny group of people that migrated to SC for only a couple of years (~6K during 1748-1756), only settling in the coastline and leaving the state largely unhabitated and unexplored for around a century, until heavy German and Italian migration came in and made it more what it is today
There's a reason people hardly ever mention them but constantly mention the other groups
>>212694729When I say people I mean people here. Any Catarinense cares about their countryside and likewise for Gaรบchos and Paranaenses. Rural development and culture is valuable in these states and it's not our problem if other Brazilians are ignorant about it (in fact being totally ignorant about any part of Brazil is shameful for any type of Brazilian in my opinion)
>the italian community is so irrelevant in SC for exampleNow that's actually delusional
Here in SC we don't think of the state as only having Germans or being German
German and Italian cultural and ethnic presence share a lot of attention together

People outside the South only talk about Germans in SC because they worship whiteness so they hyperfocus on the whitest people in Brazil
Which is actually stupid because the Italian descendants here are often very white looking or even literally mixed with German descendants, sometimes having Germanic blood from BEFORE the migration for other reasons, so people (from different regions in Brazil) can't even tell when a pale Catarinense is actually mainly Italian rather than German and just assume it's another German-Brazilian
Ignorance is nothing to be proud of but unfortunately people only know stereotypes and care about what they know even within their own country
