The only thing that was better in communist Yugoslavia is that we had a larger industry (keep in mind a lot of our companies died between WW1 and WW2, with the killings of jewish owners and commies stealing from the rich).
During the 90s war there was destruction, horrible privatization and our evil war profiteering mafia selling everything they could get their hands on to the likes of hungarian and russian oligarchs. Even after that we still had one of the biggest ship manufacturing sectors during the 00s but the horrible mismanagement and greed of our politicians killed even that so now we're mostly an expensive tourist destination with low wages and high prices, especially on the coast and in Dalmatia.
Everything else about Yugoslavia was dogshit, even after all this I listed the average person is richer, there's much less poverty, less petty crime like pickpocketing, everything is more fair and democratic and safe.

Slovenia is the only ex-yu country not counting Kosovo which has a stable or slightly growing population thanks to the massive amounts of Bosnians, Serbs and Albanians moving there and they along with every other east euro country in the EU have to import Asian workers.
Yugoslavia existing would maybe offset asian immigration by a bit if the entire country was collectively cheaper for domestic people to work in which would mean less demand for cheaper labor.
