Korea is too westernized, Japan is perceived to be more exotic and authentic. Of course to be fair the same has been happening to Japan for a long time and is probably only going to further accelerate unless there is a real shift towards nationalism over there (that is unlikely given their history and status as a glorified US military base thoughever).

I don't think Korea is westernized enough. Most of them are suck at English and they only tend to browse their own filter bubbles. And the mental models that drives their behaviors are very far from the things of Western culture.
