In AmeriKKKa, it is still legal to enslave people are punishment for crimes. If you are arrested for a serious felony in the USA, you may be expected to work part-time as a prisoner, for a garnished wage relative to the cost to house, feed, and guard you. No other developed country does this since they actually have morals. What the FUCK America?

Sincere question, no dishonesty please
Doesn't this incentivize big corporations to keep prisoners committing crimes and coming back to prison since it's free slave labor for them

Despite people talking about them, I looked into it, and I don't actually think private prisons exist. At least not in my state. If some shithole states have them, then yes I'd agree that it is a preserve incentive. If the prison is government-run, then I don't have a problem with prison labor.

Even if it's a public facility there's still contractors who make bank off things like phone calls.

Who provides them with the prison food?
Where do they get their linens?
Where do they buy the laundry detergent to wash clothes?
Where do they buy their cleaning supplies?
Who supplies the prisons with toilet paper?
Where do they buy the toothbrushes and toiletries?
Where do they buy their sinks/toilets?

These are all private contracts that makes the companies who make that shit money

Why is it wrong for prisoners to work jobs? Companies "make bank" off of their non-prisoner employees.

Prisoners pick up the trash people throw out the window. They're good for the environment

My state (Jewtah) proudly abolished slavery in 2020 by making it so that prisoners are required to be payed at least 40 cents an hour.
This is because we are enlightened and civilized (never mind we were the only western territory to have chattel slavery, that was a long time ago mkay?).
