Honestly, I think the Ottoman Empire was overrated too.
Even at its height, its population was about the same as France, despite ruling over such a vast area.
In my view, conquering the Balkans wasn’t proof that they were stronger than Western Europe. it just happened because the region was fragmented into many small states instead of having big unified powers like Britain, France, or Germany.

In my case it's entirely online. Personally and irl I could not care less about Turkey or it's people. They barely cross my mind and I've only heard Turkish spoken irl once (tourist lady asking about the price of something). My idea of "Türkiye" is Erdoğan and the Mount & Blade games. My sister used to be obsessed with Turkish dramas and they suck anyway. Other than that I just don't care. They don't have enough of a presence in my region/country for me to form a detailed opinion. We fought the Turks to form the early Saudi States so there is some historical rivalry but it really isn't anything people spend a significant amount of time thinking about. The public opinion is apathy. What few experiences I've had with Turks were nothing special. Just average brown people.
