Why is there such a a gap in civilization and culture between northern and southern Germans?
While southern Germans are some of the most civilized and cultured peoples of Europe, northern Germans are essentially militant barbarians devoid of either culture or civilization.
If I had to guess, it would be that the northern Germans weren't fully conquered by the civilized meds, whereas the southern Germans were gifted civilization sooner.
The northern Germans were left to civilize either at the same time as the slavs, or even later. However, slavs actually have culture unlike northern Germans, and are debatably even slightly more civilized.
