Khatris are from all over the North, you'll find Khatris in East UP, Bihar, and Bengal who've been living there for a thousand years or so. It's interesting cause their origin isn't exactly Punjabi, they're more likely Gandharan or Dardic in origin. I've seen some famous Khatris from the old frontier province who even identify as Hindu Pathans as their first language is Pashto, which is retarded considering they predate Pashtuns in that region by a couple thousand years at least.
I recently also found out that Aroras were initially a separate Sindhi group to begin with, with a more Zagrosian shifted genetic profile, and that Khatris that are less mixed or unmixed with Aroras have higher proportions of both steppe and AASI ancestry.

I once had to explain to a Bengali Kayastha friend of mine what a Kayastha is and that he is one, I can't remember how it came up but I wasn't the one who brought it up, and afterwards it felt strange to have spoken of these things with friends of mine. Even then though, I think Bengali Brahmins would still be aware of what they are.
You have no idea how Westernised and deracinated almost all of the non-Dehati young are.
