It is, yeah. There are a noticeable number of Bhadralok Bengalis too, South Indians in South Delhi tend to be either Malayali or Brahmin. The only people that seem very conscious of their caste seem to be the Southern Brahmins, everyone else has developed some regional identity.

Khatris are from all over the North, you'll find Khatris in East UP, Bihar, and Bengal who've been living there for a thousand years or so. It's interesting cause their origin isn't exactly Punjabi, they're more likely Gandharan or Dardic in origin. I've seen some famous Khatris from the old frontier province who even identify as Hindu Pathans as their first language is Pashto, which is retarded considering they predate Pashtuns in that region by a couple thousand years at least.
I recently also found out that Aroras were initially a separate Sindhi group to begin with, with a more Zagrosian shifted genetic profile, and that Khatris that are less mixed or unmixed with Aroras have higher proportions of both steppe and AASI ancestry.

I once had to explain to a Bengali Kayastha friend of mine what a Kayastha is and that he is one, I can't remember how it came up but I wasn't the one who brought it up, and afterwards it felt strange to have spoken of these things with friends of mine. You are very much on point about the orignal origins of khatris and their admixtures, however in my previous post I was only referring to khatris who reside in delhi and a lot of them came from pakistan post partition, regarding their arora admixture you are very much on point again, its believed that Khatris are paternally more or less descended from Gandhara who then later were displace from their likely due to islamic invasions and most likely migrated towards aror regions of Pakistan
