Made less important yes, but far from over.
Still cheaper for someone to do much of their business with the town a mile down the road than with a factory on the other end of the planet. It's really only mass production that's more cost effective elsewhere due to economy of scale.

This is true if the US is willing to use hard power, but that would lead to a whole lot of other problems. However Canada (and Australia) probably have some of the most complementary economic interests with China in the world, even more so if the US is stuck only trying to coerce them with soft/economic power, so its ironic how politically shackled they are to the current order.
