Yes, we're very catholic, though in Peru, even among rural people, it's rare to attend church every weekend, unlike religious Americans (or so it seems from your media). But many do attend during the periodic rural festivals or "fiestas patronales".

For example, vid is the largest Catholic celebration in Cusco, Apu Qoyllur Rit’i. It gathers the local indian nations of Paucartambo, Quispicanchi, Canas, Canchis, Acomayo, Chumbivilcas

Peruvians get so much hate from everyone yet they are the most well behaved LatAm migrants you could possibly imagine. Has a peruvian ever comitted a crime? You have Colombians raping little girls in Spain, Venezuelans gouging the eyes of a girl and raping her after in Poland, Dominicans, Equatorians, Salvadorans, etc. all creating brutal murderous gangs, and Mexico is just Mexico as always you know, that's just what they do. But Peruvians? I feel sorry for them.

They look like giga indios so they are discriminated against just like Mayans here, despite statistically being way more peaceful than average.

However my schizo theory is that just like the Mayans they're descended from civilization indios (Incas in this case), unlike mestizos who are often descended from rebel indios who joined Spanish expeditions explicitly to fuck civilization indios up.

The pilgrimage starts at their local towns and villages. For most people, it ends at the Sinakara sanctuary, only the bear-men impersonators (ukuku/ukumari) are allowed to climb all the way to Apu Ccolquepunco (hol-he-punco).

They rarely die, but when it happens, it is seen as an offering to the tutelary mountain (Apu) of Paucartambo and Quispicanchi

Those are from Paucartambo, pic are from Quispicanchi.

The Chachapoyan mestizo Jesuit Blas Valera describes, among the garments of the Vilaoma (“the Inca pope”): a sleeveless surplice, knee-length, made of white wool, with red wool fringes or tassels (una sobrepelliz sin mangas, hasta la rodilla, de lana blanca, con sus flecos o rapacejos de lana colorada). Which is very similar to what they wear today.

A very similar outfit was also worn by teenagers during the mountain-climbing phase of the warachikuy coming-of-age rites.

really cool, although the "offering to the mountain spirit" part feels almost like a pre-human sacrifice abstraction, like the next logical step to that for a primitive people would be to just throw people from the cliffs to guarantee a proper crop next season

It's like “if it happened at least...”

An offering to pachamama performed during the Qoyllur Rit’i is the yawar unu (yawar = blood, unu = water). It is often carried out by llaqtayoq/qhapaq qolla impersonators, but also by ukukus and other characters, sometimes between nations, sometimes internally

It is a competition to withstand pain, oftentimes very humorous
>offering to pachamama
I mean, aside from the typical offerings to pachamama seen in Qoyllur Rit’i to christian apachetas (with a cross on top like in the video), things like beer, tobacco, coca leaves, dry llama fetuses...

That's quite literally it indeed. The Mayas and Quechuas were civilized and so they perservered as ethnic groups to this day and still have some of that civilized mentality. The other Indios were unorganized barbarians who were fully subjugated by the Spanish and then became modern mongrelized barbarian mestizos.

Also should note that Peruvian migrants here tend to be successful and well off financially despite being predominantly indigenous while mestizos from Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia etc are often poor and uneducated despite being "racially better".

A 20th-century photo of a Q’ero Indian at the Qoyllur Rit’i by nationally famous cusqueñian photographer Martin Chambi (his surname is Quechua for mace or bronze, btw).

This was especially true back then, as part of the andean New Year marked by the return of the Pleiades. Cusco's most remote nation, the Q’ero, would split their group in two: one half heading to a sacred spring in the lower jungle (hurin).

The other to the heights of Ccolquepunco during Qoyllur Rit’i (hanan), to seek healing powers in the frozen waters and search for the Snow Star (Qoyllur Rit’i), believed to be locked deep within the mountain.

After everyone else leaves, the Q’ero come down to the sanctuary and celebrate for two more days. They wait for the priest to leave, because “they don’t believe in the Lord of the Church, only in the Lord of the Snow”

This kind, the spectacled bear, the only South American species. Some believe that some of the earliest depictions of the staff god, like some of those from chavin, are actually bears rather than felines.
