How are pools perceived in your country?

I'll begin:

Pools are "weird", mainly because they are considered unhygienic and dirty. It's said that only dumb teenagers use them. Nonetheless, in most wards, you can access public pools for a couple of hours for around ¥400 (¥200 for minors).

Also, people here use "pūru/プール" to refer to pools, which is how the English word is adapted into Japanese phonetics.

swimming is a very common recreational activity so pools are everywhere. you go there, do your laps, maybe hit the gym and sauna. it's very normal. the only time it is not 100% normal is during summer. then you can use the sea, rivers and lakes. if you go to a pool during summer you're an idiot.

Public pools here are generally free or very cheap and used to be very popular with wipipo and were seen like going to the beach but less effort. Oddly it's beaches you sometimes pay to get into here. Then non whites basically started using pools and beaches basically as public baths and cramming in. Now wipipo mostly stay home and it's mostly unwhite pipo cramming into pools in summer because some of them live in European tier squalor without AC

I would go to a Japanese public pool but only if I knew that A) it has just been cleaned and B) 100 pretty Japanese women will get in the pool with me and start squirting pee in the pool
