My vision of the future is a handful of mega-cities scattered around the world that function as production centers, education, scienctific, etc, with the rest of the Earth returned to wilderness interspersed with the occasional 90% self-sufficient tribes/colonies/villages. Most cities will shrivel up and die, only around 5-10 megacities will survive per continent (London, Tokyo, Paris, New York, etc). Populations will continue to drop well into the 2500's. It will be glorious.
