I'm not going to pretend like democracy is the most sensible form of government, but it's the form of government there is. Even if terribly flawed, democratic states have been allowed to exist by the permissive will of God. They're the concretely existing inheritors of historical and social authority, and we are obligated to them. Without them we would be nothing. They make their decisions in stupid ways, but they're still legitimate decisions, and we're still obligated to subordinate ourselves to them. They've gotten us involved in some wars which from my amateur point of view seem to have been stupid. But this is preferable to the war of all against all of civil war or anarchy. Dying even in a stupid war, properly subordinating yourself to authority, is an act of peace, even when it may not seem like it, because in accepting your place you reinforce the stability of the social order and prevent civil strife
