I used to be anti-tipping but the crazy thing is everyone literally prefers this system

1) the waiter prefers this because they take home more money
2) the restaurant owner prefers it costs less to run a restaurant
3) even the restaurant guests prefer it because there is actually aligned incentive for the waiter to give a fuck about serving you

I do not like tipping, I don't even care if my food is late. As long as it doesn't have spit or hair on it, I'm fine with the service.

Here in Europe, that's called working for a wage, that's the waiter's incentive to do a good job, getting a wage.

On the same note, tipping reminds me of corruption. When the system is broken in low trust societies, the only way to ensure vital services (police, medical etc.) work as intended is to grease the palm of the service provider. Bit of a stretch to apply this to tipping your waiter, maybe, but not that much.

Because they rely on it to make bank. But if the consumer is brainwashed enough it's a once in a blue moon kind of thing i.e their income is not really affected. The sucker in that system is always the consumer.

In any other type of situation the point 3 is dealt by consumers not returning to places with bad service. That's the incentive to do a good service.

I don't know about the point 1. If I was a waiter I would want a more stable and reliable income source instead of my boss pocketing the entire profits and treating me essentially like an outsorced worker who needs to rely on the good will of extorted clients paying twice.

So this whole scheme only seems to benefit the restaurant owner in point 2

No, if the amount of tips that waiters get is under the minimum wage, then the employer is required to make up the difference so that they make at least the minimum wage.

any suggestion to stop the practice of tipping will be met with death threats in the USA by waiters. They FUCKING LOVE tips. you have to realize that at nice restaurants waiters can easily clear 100k ALL CASH compensation in the USA. and at mid tier restaurants waiters easily can make 60-70k, as a job that requires no real skill or training.

I can understand their point of view, but from MY point of view there's no reason to pay 20% more than due. If the customers united to only pay the price that would be a good step forward.

Propose to raise wages until they are equal to their income with tips, but now stable and for every single worker. Will this be met with the same death threats?

when I was in highschool I worked at a somewhat nice restaurant (think $25 plates back in 2011-2012). I bussed tables and made $4.15 an hour but got 1% of the non alcohol restaurant sales during my work hours as a tipout. I ended up making ~$22/hr on a regular night, sometimes as high as $30/hr on special nights like valentines or mothers/fathers day. I never had to actually interact with people and I got free food every night I worked.

It was the best job I could have had as a highschooler. Thinking back I feel like I was overpaid.
