I have begun to hate women in my TL language now that I understand it
Which language is he learning?
>>212907185isn't this the faggot singer from Pentatonix?
>>212907104 (OP)The OP is simply garbage
>>212907233thanks, I posted it myself
>>212907225It's a genre of man, there are a lot of them.
>>212907185Probably his wife's language so he can talk to the in-laws when they visit.
>>212907125I have begun to like women in my TL even more now that I understand it
But I heard a japanese woman saying she had a thing for white guys until she became good at english and could understand them and then she lost all attraction to them
I need a blueprint for language learning.
I am interested in German, French, Italian or Japanese if that matter
Should I use Anki or not? If I should, should I repeat aloud or remain silent? Does the input always have to be understandable, or is it enough that I become familiar with the sounds of my TL? Because I have many hours in Japanese, Italian, and French because I listened to a lot of music in those languages, I watched movies and anime. Should I check new sounds in my TL or not with these tutorials on YT? If so, should I repeat new sounds aloud or not?
>>212907671i wonder if there's a group that gets more attractive when foreigners learn their native language
and vice versa
>>212907739Always choose a language based on how much you can use it.
also you already messed up by fucking around in them. Permanent damage. Pick a different language. ALG is reality.
>>212907739Try shit and figure it out on your own. Stop procrastinating.
Just imagine yourself learning Russian, yes russian, that fucking disgusting, nasty, putrid language. fucking inserting it into your brain. Having that goblin speak inscripted inside your memory.
Now imagine people doing that deliberately to themselves. What have the world come to?
>>212907343https://youtu.be/TQhyDYQ081U
>>212908055Do you even enjoy learning languages?
>>212909546who gives a fuck about enjoying it? stop acting like a child or a woman.
>>212909584I'm not going to spend 3000 hours doing something I don't enjoy
Can someone explain to me what makes “Refold” meaningfully different from just doing a frequency deck, a bunch of input, and then mining?
It just sounds like some YouTuber took the combined work of the AJATTers, slapped a proprietary paint job on it, and started charging cash.
>>212909584I can guarantee that you are a scared little guy with a high pitched voice and no chest hair. No one else ever says shit like this

i have a constant problem of getting autistically obsessed with a country/culture, deciding to learn their language, then dropping it as soon as i become autistically obsessed with another country/culture.
i am currently fighting the urge to learn turkish because i read a book about ataturk. there are mandarin, russian, burmese, welsh and japanese books in my drawer.
>>212909761Nothing, they're just trying to bring immersion learning to a more casual audience. The guide that Matt wrote has always been free, they only charge for the decks and their coaching program. They also have some 30-day course for the people that really want to be spoon-fed and get advice and feedback every step of the way, but they're not selling any "secrets" that aren't already in the public guide. Their latest focus is on building a language learning habit tracking app to help people stay consistent and do the work.
The method is indeed just watered down AJATT, but the community surrounding it is pretty good, there's some good resources and SLA discussion on the discord servers.

Any textbook recommendations for spanish conjugation and/or grammar?
I immerse myself with videos and flashcards, but struggle to form grammatically correct sentences.
I also want a physical textbook to take notes in while I study.

>>212910366Nothing wrong with that. As soon as you accept that it’s a matter of joy and not a bad thing then what’s the problem? You just like having wide knowledge of the world.
Maybe try dropping literally all other languages except one to focus on and limit your engagement/expectations of learning other languages with new cultures to just learning the phonetics and some phrases.
>>212909761Nobody, literally nobody, talked about ALG or Refold before your schizo ass turned up here and started shitting everywhere about muh damage, listen to 9000 hours of baby cartoons, muh Brown. You only ever post in English, interestingly enough.

How easy is it actually to learn other latinx languages if you're already fluent in one?
I'm fluent in french and I keep hearing it would be fairly easy for me to learn Spanish and Italian etc
>>212914692desu i'm not trying to be some eceleb on a barely alive 4chan thread. i'm just buying into ALG. it simply makes sense. i never hear people with good accents and fluent speech. maybe the reasons ALG talks about are why. it's really convincing.
everybody already agrees with ALG on certain things, like early output being bad. it's just this extra stuff
- trying to analyze it
- reading
- any form of traditional studying
that people seem to have a problem with, but there are a lot of good reasons given by these ALG proponents as to why those things are bad in the beginning.
>>212915227yeah, and i think they're right. i hear all of the time people say stuff like "i used flashcards but i can't ever understand or use the words in practice" and "there's no context so i don't really know it" or w/e. that's like a meme at this point.

You won't perfectly understand it because of Anki, but you'll have at least a faint idea of what's going on.

But in that time I familiarized myself with like half the words I would ever see in a given sentence. I think in the long term doing something minimal like 5 words a day maximum, really targeting mining words that matter to me personally, that I will remember the context of, will really level up ease/consistency and be less distracting from my input.
More than that, I think keeping one’s anki really spartan, and actually mining from your input day one, is probably really helpful since you have context for the words from your memory.

>>212915838No, I actually tried doing ALG in Japanese for about 165 hours, and although my understanding is a lot better and the language is slightly more complex, it's still not enough to understand shows for little kids. I know 165 hours isn't that long, but I just couldn't keep watching the Comprehensible Japanese videos alongside shows like Miffy, I got burnt ou (I was doing like 3 hours daily), and stopped having as much time. I actually haven't been studying Japanese in a while because of this, even though I could theoretically just spend less time on this, like 1 hour daily.
>>212916070idk, maybe that's because it's japanese, basically the hardest language you could have chosen

I fucking hate this website. You can make as narrow a point with as many caveats as possible and people will still aggressively misunderstand it and ignore what you’re saying because no one actually wants to discuss the topic. They just want to complain on an anime forum about their mental illness which they channel into language learning.
Is this "damage your brain's ability to learn TL" shit real? Because I do feel like I damaged my brain's ability to learn French. No other second language really makes much sense for my situation. Can I power through this damage somehow?

>>212919143english is a tough nut to crack because every native accent sounds ridiculous and/or stupid, so the real meta might be to just never try to sound native in english because sounding foreign is objectively better

>>212918329>"damage your brain's ability to learn TL"It's bullshit and never will be, keep calm and ignore the wannabe scientist.
If that shit was real I wouldn't be fluent in English or in Japanese seeing as I went against every single advice of their beloved prophet(PBUH) while learning, though it seems the goalpost has recently changed from "you can never learn a language without doing ALG" to "fine you can become fluent but not a superduper fluent badass", whatever the fuck that means.

>>212919632J'habitais en France pour trois ans quand j'étais adolescent, et (évidemment) assisté à un collège Français là bas. Quand vous parlez et écoutez la langue tous les jours ça devient une inévitabilité que vous allez devenir courant. Je sais que c'est beaucoup plus difficile quand on est adulte mais il faut essayer de reproduire ce sort d'environnement, ça suffit pas de juste regarder des médias français il faut aussi parler et écrire etc.
>>212919675Your women disagree, they all love big English cock
>>212918329It's no different than if you learned from a bad source that taught you the wrong words, or incorrect grammar. At worst you have to unlearn and relearn it. Thankfully the brain is capable of doing that, as you would know if you've ever made a mistake doing anything and learned from it.
>>212918392>you might end up getting them mixed upNot really worth worrying about unless you plan on speaking early.
I think it's fairly amusing that "manga" was already a word in Spanish that meant "sleeve" before the Japanese word "manga" showed up. "La manga" means the sleeve, "el manga" means the Japanese comic.

Optimal input at the early intermediate stages should be
>Multiple people interacting
>While doing some activity
>Preferably an activity that you're already quite familiar with
Conversation gives a lot of scaffolding for intuiting grammar and vocabulary that you don't get from straight monologuing because of the back-and-forth. This is a very non-trivial difference, humans are socially oriented and are very good at interpreting the meaning of natural emotionally-charged conversation.
Watching people engage in activity, aside from giving visual scaffolding, also limits the scope of conversation so that the brain's automatic predictive learning mechanisms have less work to do.
I've just been watching group minecraft streamers lately, its a lot of fun

The problem is that the only countries worth to moving to are Germany and Scandinavia. I don't know if it's worth learning holiday languages (or for content like music, movies, series, talking to people). It's not that I don't like Germanic languages, it's just that my obsessions fluctuate, and right now my focus is shifting from France to Italy. Also, the inability to find good content (a few bands, that one Netflix series is not much) in German bothers me. The only charm for me is the old stuff like Gothic or DSA. ARE THERE ANY WAYS I CAN USE TRILLED R IN GERMAN AND NOT SOUND FOREIGN (due to that particular feature singled out) OR RETARDED, OR IS IT JUST A PLAINLY BAD IDEA?

I’m so fucking conflicted on whether I should learn Japanese or not. Sometimes I’m obsessed with Japanese culture, you know, anime, manga, history, idols, vtubers, games and all that crap, but then sometimes I’m like “what the fuck am I doing with my life? This shit is retarded, I should focus on better stuff” and the cycle goes on and on. What should I do? Do I genuinely like Japanese culture or not?
>>212960819Same. You need to find a second language or a hobby to balance it out. I think Japanese culture, at least the one seen online, is exaggerated by the media. It focuses on nostalgia, sentiment, and politeness, and the media exploits these human instincts. Italian and French movies and media are like that a bit too. Brazilian culture seems different to me, maybe a bit sentimental, so not being terminally online and do some kind of normiemaxccing is probably enough. All that weeb stuff is great but you have to do some of these things from anime irl to stay sane and don't become a sad cunt

>>212963489I wrote about this a few threads ago: it crushes my soul that even if I learned Japanese, I'll be too old to enjoy Japan, to repeat all the clichés and everything associated with it. There will be no dates in school uniforms, no sitting on the same school roof, no participating in school clubs and find friends there. It's not without reason that anime focuses on school life; even though it's a grind, after school is even harder. In fact, we were even born in the wrong decade, because Japan is circa 30 years past its peak.
And the Japanese media capitalizes on this nostalgia. That's why there are so many isekai, so many school romances, and now they're even reviving old series
I regret not being a hardcore weeb in primary school and learn the language then, even though, I had some similar experience like in anime, friends, hanging out after school, projects, kind of strict school rules etc. Maybe that's why the Japanese media hit me so late: they feed on my nostalgia for those times

If I had a chance at a stable job in France with an okay salary and no fear of being stabbed with a syringe by a random stranger, I wouldn't even consider it. Unfortunately, Germany, the Netherlands, the Scandinavian countries seem better places to live for the average person. France is a still an upgrade compared to Poland but Still, the disadvantages don't outweigh the advantages. Even with the lack of recent Polish immigrants in France, stereotypes known from Germany and the Netherlands are common, so France doesn't even offer the advantage of people viewing you more favorably than in those countries where we've sent many criminals

>>212963903I think the Japan school life is overrated.
I'm a weeb and I'm into non-weeb Japanese culture shit too, but I'm happy to wait until my 40s or 50s before going to Japan. I never really wanted to experience school life in Japan, maybe if I had the opportunity as a teenager I would have taken it but it's not like I imagine it would have been some kind of anime romance story. And I suppose visiting Japan in your 20's is not much different than in your 30's or later, because according to everyone who's gone there, locals give you the gaijin treatment regardless of your age or Japanese ability
I actually think visiting Japan as an old man would be even cooler, because they aren't going to see you as another young weeb just there to go to maid cafes and get drunk in Akihabara with other foreigners, and elders are respected in Japanese culture. I plan to learn Japanese maybe when I'm in my late 30s (my current TLs will be in maintenance-mode by then) and by the time I'm in my 40s I should be fluent enough to have an epic adventure that you can't have as a non-Japanese speaker.
Also let's be honest most Japanese girls don't exactly look like they do in anime, sure some are attractive but honestly I'll let them for my yellow-fever bros. My preference has always been for the European variety.
>>212967647You can have anime like teenage life almost everywhere with some variations in details, right. It's not only romcoms though. japanese media farm nostalgia and melancholy. What drew me to Japan most were its music and motoring. And there's something melancholic about the Japanese artistic soul. I see Portugal similarly: one great reflection on what's gone. Italian art is similar too, though people don't associate it with it at first glance.
>Also let's be honest most Japanese girls don't exactly look like they do in anime, sure some are attractive but honestly I'll let them for my yellow-fever bros. My preference has always been for the European variety.Kind of similliar but it's not like I don't find them attractive or all white girls are attractive.
