More than the countless deaths the constant need for political compromise with military warlords and the absence of a strong unitary state has ment that, like in the rest of latin america, all institutions from healthcare, police, infrastructure, justice, all are pathetically weak and constantly overwhelmed
Imagine the united states lost the civil war. Imagine from the moment of independence the argument of the constitution vs the articles of confederation never happened. Imagine the country spent its entire existance changing regimes and these new regimes never managed to crush its opposition or find a proper compromise but instead rewarded armed thugs and warlords with goverment positions
this is ALL of latin america.
