By all accounts it's an average latinx country, in fact Mexico is actually the most average in the world when it comes to GDP per capita. They are violent but so are other panchitos, in Brazil you have favelados, in Colombia cocaine mafias, in Ecuador rioting prisoners were playing football with severed heads, etc. Some of the crime specific to Central America might be due to deported criminals from the US and the lucrative US drug market which gives more of a reason for cartels to form and fight

According to them, its a dysfunctional, backwards society, with mismashed values that conflict with itself thus no one has a solid moral compass thus the rampant crime and celebration of death and general disarray of their government and society as a whole.

They even call their own Mexico "Messyco" and Mexicans "Messycans" because of how messed up their country is.

I really think Mexicans need to flush out their dark rituals that glorify death and embrace a clean start that celebrates life and make a better society that actually works towards building each other up and not bringing yourselves down.

Right wingers, the main promoters of the "failed state" narrative, only deal in absolutes, they cant differentiate and cathegorize the numerous social realities that exist within a country. This indeed requieres time and most importantly a functioning brain.

In Mexico like all peripherical countries you will find regions where the most advanced forms of capitalism co exist with archaic rudimentary peasant production. Its precisely from this uneven and combined development that arises the almost surreal social inequalities that feed the criminal groups.


Its not a question of "race" or nationality, its a matter of how in the real world capitalist progress develops very unevenly contrary to the "textbook" english/american ideal example of development (ideal only if we omit the black slavery, indian genocide and theft of mexican land)
