>>212957369>was arranged marriage a thing for your shithole in the 20th century?yes? my parents got married in the 1980s and it was a regular arranged marriage like everywhere in Polish countryside back then, what counted is how big farm my dad had and how much arable land + dowry my mum could bring into the marriage, nothing else, surely not look (both my parents had certain flaws in their appearance due to diseases, I inherited that from them both and that's why I'm a dysgenic incel btw).
It only started to change in the 1990s and mostly in big cities, this change was also gradual - there was a period when women were already free to pick their husband more or less freely (without parents doing it for them yet still parent's consent and opinion was still taken seriously) but they did that not solely by look but by other qualities like personality, not being a drunkard, working hard and so on - that was in the 90s/00s when Poland was still poor and women needed men to provide to the family or they wouldn't survive. I can see that in my uncles/aunts generation (people born in the 70s/80s) - the men who managed to reproduce could be ugly as fuck but already had to be ambitious, hard working, decisive etc.
That started changing rapidly after our EU admission, lots of well-paid office jobs for females popping up and women finally getting economic freedom so suddenly they stopped looking for anything but good look in men, because they're self-sufficient otherwise.
