I am obsessed with Eastern Europe. I think these countries are fascinating, there's just always something interesting happening here.
Why is this region so chaotic?

pressure from east (steppe invaders, then russia)
pressure from west (germanics)
pressure from south (turks, fugees nowadays)
some experienced scandinavian invaders some centuries ago

Belarus is an oppressive dictatorship while Slovenia is a liberal democracy. Meanwhile both US and Mexico have very similar political systems, as it's largely a reflection of their similar culture and value system
