My friend was suckerpunched in the back of the head in Crete by Greeks who thought he was a tourist. He wasn't even a tourist, he was working there in a call center.

Yes unfortunately, it's kinda been a hidden gem but probably not anymore, a few years ago I saw too mant foreign plates in the coast of Epirus close to Parga, especially Romanian plates
Other than that, Eastern Epirus which is the mountainous part might not get too many tourists which is good

when i went to greece i was surprised how dusty and dead the land looked
how people can live there is beyond me

I am half from South Epirus, I think there are plenty of places to visit in Epirus, other than Ioannina it might feel dead because the region has like 330k population with 120-150k of them probably living in Ioannina regional unit, there's the lake of Ioannina, Vrellis wax museum, cave of Perama, Zagorochoria, there's Koronisia and the bridge of Arta, as a kid I remember going from Epirus to Thessaly through the Pindus mountain range being nice going through forests, wooden bridges and tunnels in the mountains but that's before the highway connecting Epirus to Thessaly through Egnatia highway was built
