I don't know, I've retreated from society.

I'm unironically concerned that in my lifetime I'll see the norm shift to people never marrying or cohabitating but still having sex, maybe even have kids still, and just switch weeks of having the kid while never being exclusive to the kids mom/dad and still date/sleep/have kids with other people (if people have kids at all, I find this unlikely)

but like I think people will all be satisfied with this, everyone is so atomized and weird and it's getting worse, exclusive couples will get rare and everyone will just live alone in shoebox apartments and the most "committed" anyone will get with each other is essentially fwb, and if they have kids they will each only need to deal with them every other week, and both parents will be so disinterested in the kids development they'll just let public schools and ipads raise them and not really care what the other parent is up to when they have them, because they know they're either at school or in front of a screen

this just seems like the logical progression of the no responsibility, no accountability, no integrity, zero investment, anhedonic individualist culture that's been running the last many decades

I find it highly ironic because marriage has never been more expensive or ceremonialized for the few that are doing it, and then everyone else isn't bothering whatsoever. A weird schism for an institution in its death throes.

Marriage was poisoned by the state, it simply makes no sense to do it. At the end of the day commitment is personal and between 2 people not some contract.
