What do Chileans think of Allende and Pinochet? I just took a college course on Latin American history and it portrayed Allende very sympathetically and Pinochet very negatively, but I'm curious what actual Chileans think.

it's divided among class lines. though most people dislike pinochet, but upper class people are more likely to like him. allende i think most people also think he was a retard. there may be some poor people who like him. i think both figures are seen as retards but maybe im projecting my own feelings.

Allende and the other deposed president Argentine did nothing wrong, they tried to institute bare minimum socialist policies to improve the lives of their lower classes, hey weren’t even communists, but in the eyes of the American government any socialism must equal communism and so they funded coups against them, destabilising those countries.

I cant say whats socialism or not. But here our president wanted the same kind of land reforms that happened in USA, britain, germany etc. bourgeoise land reforms that crush the economic power of land owners and lower the cost of production for industry. And they still wouldnt have that.

also one of the main driving forces of our development was the statization of copper which was done by Allende and Pinochet didn't mess with that since he knew it was a net positive.
also on a personal level, pinochet was clearly a retard that stole fuckton of money and originally the chiefs of each arm of the armed forces (army, navy, air force and police) were going to take turns as a boss, but he wanted it all for himself.

I don't know what people think, but this country is full of imbecile monkeys. The vast majority thinks the main problem we have is insecurity, crime, and uncontrolled immigration, and that same majority of imbeciles plan to vote for a communist candidate who has said that criminals and illegal immigrants, who are the ones who commit the most serious crimes like contract killings, kidnappings, and rapes, should be treated with love, , and that the most dangerous criminals should be released from prison to do community service. Pinochet was more than necessary at that time, and it's more than clear that we need another one now.
