That being said, if you look at Japan's history, they actually kept to themselves. Outside of Yamato's expedition to Baekje (which ended disastrously), the wokou pirate raids (not all of them were Japanese, there were many Chinese and even a Mongolian based on 1 leader's name), and Hideyoshi's invasion, they actually have a better track record in living with their neighbors than Europeans and MENA did.

It wasn't until 1894 when they decided to emulate Western imperialism and went full psycho (they didn't have a democracy but were lead by a military oligarchy) that we saw some truly heinous shit.

And let's not pretend we didn't slaughter and oppress millions of non-whites and even our fellow whites like Irish under the British or Polish under the Russians, Germans, and Austrians.

You're right, but just because they started off primitive doesn't discount how they became a civilization in their own right.

There's a reason why European visitors to Japan have consistently praised them and made analogies to their home countries. Japanese feudalism was eerily similar to Western European feudalism so there was common ground. Their islands have the most pleasant climate compared to India and China which the Europeans of the 16th and 17th century had experienced and they noted Japanese aesthetics and attention to order.

My distant ancestors were originally Germanic pagans. But they eventually become civilized and ushered in progress and innovation (Dutch, German, and Norwegian ancestry). No culture is completely stagnant and aloof from foreign influence. Your own country borrows heavily from India, Islam, and China.

The Yayoi were most likely some form of proto-Koreans as well as Chinese, Tungustic, and other groups in Northeastern Asia/Eastern Siberia.

Historians have also discovered proto-Japonic traces on mainland Asia so it's not so cut-and-dry.

It's true besides pottery which the Jomon were pretty advanced in, they were backward people living in their archipelago. But so were many people outside of the cultural spheres of Greece, Rome, Babylonia, Hittites, Egypt, India, China, Persians, etc.
