on the 24th the online protection act is going into force which requires all websites to that give like a monthly report or something to ofcom and also requires sites that host 18+ content to use legit ID to verify age. It's too much of a hassle for most sites so we're just being banned

That's not enough that's why this is a big deal, you're supposed to make a risk assessment and shit
Needless to say mods are never doing that so ofcom will ask ISPs to block 4chan
Pretty sure you can bypass that but idk

sites are supposed to have age verification by July 25th
if they don't comply the govt can get ISPs to block sites, but they need a court order. it won't happen instantly.

You understand you're talking about the UK right? We're the North Korea of woke. We will deny our market to any company that could possibly have any anti liberal thought crime. The goverment wants it go back to the 1990s when there were 5 channels and they could censor them at will. Conveniently it will also mean only the current tech giants can ever compete.

They claim jurisdiction over Brits and therefore any site that we go to, somehow. Apparently they're threatening to levy a 20 million dollar (equivalent) fine, or 10% of the website's revenue for noncompliance (whichever is higher).

Apparently the threat must be credible since a number of sites have already blocked Brits from accessing them. The 'farms, for example.

There is a decent chance that the EU will copy this garbage though(they love cracking down on free speech and privacy as we all know).
The only reason why a large paltform like X is still allowed to be relatively uncensored is that the US government is literally blackmailing the EU to not censor American social media.(which is a good thing), but 4chan likely wouldn't enjoy that protection.
