And about the cold war one, there's evidence that links the US to thinktanks like the IMPES and the CIA to AMFNB revolt with preceded the coup, there's also a record from the hotline between president Lyndon Jonhson and the US ambassator to Brazil in which they discuss the matter a related to an american naval task force kept in standby under pretense of conducting exercises in the south atlantic, which was prepared to intervene in case the brazilian government resisted the coup, nicknamed operation brother SAM. The US inteligence community also handed the new goverment documents listing possible enemies to the new state, which proves they had an operating spy network in country before they coup, and provided aid into training brazilian inteligence in enhanced interrogation techniques. They can't be blamed entirely of course but they were involved before, during and after the fact
