I have some questions for Japanese anons and other people who know

Japan requires that you give up your citizenship to get Japanese citizenship correct?

How do they know if you gave up your home country's citizenship? In the USA it's notoriously hard to give up your citizenship so how can they possibly know?

...What if you just don't?

they'd ask the US embassy about your status, i guess.

You need a paper that you resigned your former citizenship

Embassies dont communicate this, so there's ways to cheat if you're born with two citizenships (and acquire more on the way)

ok well it says here that it's really fucking hard to renounce citizenship so what if I just go through the process but never pay the fee to actually do it

Maybe but then the Japanese likely wouldn't approve it. They're notoriously bureaucratic.
