Good morning.

Not to be a smartass, but a croissant is supposed to be crescent-shaped. That's why it's called a "coissant". Also it's Austrian, not French. A Vienna baker came up with it when the Turks were defeated in 1683.

Thank you, and a nice morning to you too. I worked hard all week and now I can enjoy the weekend. (I still have to put in a few hours of work, but I'll do that later.)

Oh. Over here, school holidays in 14 of the 16 federal states start today. There's going to be a lot of traffic on the roads. Petrol prices have already increased. (They do that all the time when people travel.) I hope you have a few last nice days of vacation and you get back safely. Have a nice weekend, too!

That's nice, too, and underrated I think. I live in a very green 600,000 inhabitant town with lots of nice places. I can't take holidays this year, but I used to relax at home, too. You don't have to travel, you don't have to spend money on expensive hotels and restaurants, you can just have a nice picknick in a park and then sleep in your own bed. No stressful travel, no traffic jams on the Autobahn, no overcrowded trains or airports, no difficulties with foreign languages or currencies.

Maybe there's also a psychological effect of leaving your problems behind you for a short while as you leave your surroundings, your home town or even your home country. I haven't done that in a long time, but I remember I used to feel differently over there.

However travel is expensive, I am relatively poor, and the country I vacationed last in is now under radical muslim rule and has had terror attacks on tourists, so I won't go back there. Ever since corona travel restrictions the touristy towns in my own country have been booked out, too. You'd have to reserve a room 12 months in advance if you want to travel to the Baltic Sea coast for example, and I can't plan that far ahead.

What a nice thread. Thanks, Poland friend

Very good attitude. My area gets lots of tourists from other parts of Germany during the summer while all the locals flee elsewhere, and I never really got it. There's a reason people come here, it's nice here. I guess a change of scenery can be nice once in a while..

Here's an idea: Visit places that aren't overrun with tourists.

What am I to do in Sprockhövel, Schmölln or Frohnhausen? There's nothing there, so nobody wants to go there.
